Chorale is the top varsity mixed ensemble of the BHS Choir program. This auditioned class is reserved for students who have gone through our training choirs or AP Music Theory and have shown mastery of skills such as vocal technique, sight-reading, rhythm, basic piano knowledge, and basic music theory. Chorale competes at local festivals, sings annually at the BHS Homecoming Game, and is entered as the Varsity Mixed Choir for UIL Concert and Sight-reading. Students in chorale have a higher expectation and are required for more after school rehearsals than our training choirs.
Chamber Choir is our premiere small mixed ensemble. Reserved for no more than 32 singers, Chamber Choir competes and travels to festivals and contests outside of the Cypress/Houston areas. Students in this choir must show a high level of music making and ensemble skills. Students are expected to read their music from sight in Chamber Choir and are expected to be largely self-sufficient in the learning of their music. Chamber Choir is the choir that is used for outreach opportunities and community events. Students in this ensemble must also be in one of our other advanced choirs (Chorale or Advanced Treble Choir).
Advanced Treble Choir is an intermediate auditioned ensemble that is made up of mostly sophomores and junior female singers. While still a training choir, this class will compete at festivals. In order to earn a place in this class, a student must show proficiency in vocal technique, sight-reading skills and basic music theory knowledge. At the end of the year, students are auditioned for placement into Chorale and Chamber Choir. This class is entered as our Non-Varsity Treble Choir at UIL Concert and Sight-reading Evaluation.
Tenor Bass Choir is an entry level high school choir made up of mostly freshmen and students who are newer to high school choir. This course is designed as a training choir for Chorale and Chamber Choir. In Tenor Bass Choir we work to build skills such as vocal tone, music reading ability, music theory and ensemble skills. Students in Tenor Bass Choir audition at the end of each school year for placement in Chorale and Chamber Choir. At UIL Concert and Sight-reading Evaluation, this course is entered as a Non-Varsity Tenor Bass Choir. No audition is required to be in this class.
Concert Treble Choir is an entry level high school choir made up of mostly freshmen and students who are newer to high school choir. This course is designed as a training choir for Advanced Treble Choir and on rare occasions Chamber Choir. In Concert Treble we work to build skills such as vocal tone, music reading ability, music theory and ensemble skills. At the end of each school year, students audition for placement in Advanced Treble Choir. On occasion, a junior or a senior who shows exceptional skills may be considered for placement in Chorale and Chamber Choir. At UIL Concert and Sight-reading Evaluation, this course is entered as our Sub Non-Varsity Treble Choir. No audition is required to be in this class.
